Founded in 1854 the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium is situated in the heart of East London. It is the largest such municipal facility in Europe and is set out in 200 acres of beautiful grounds and consists of over seven miles of tree lined roadways, 32 acres of formal gardens and five ceremonial chapels.
The crematorium boasts both modern and traditional crematorium chapels The traditional Crematorium is located in the centre of the Cemetery surrounded by landscaped Memorial Gardens, this Edwardian Grade II listed building offers a more traditional funeral setting for cremation services, which can seat up to 80 mourners. There is a floral display area adjacent to the building on which your funeral flowers can be displayed and the chapel offers a PA system should you have more mourners than can be seated.
The modern Crematorium has a chapel on the north and south sides. Our North Chapel accomadates 100 mourners and the South Chapel can also seat around the same. Both our North and South Chapels have large sliding glass doors that open out to a covered area where a further 200 to 300 mourners can stand, view and listen (with an in built PA system). They both have piped church organs, visual screens that can be used for presentations, videos or photographs and a state of the art digital music system. The standard service time in any of the chapels is 30 minutes, during which you can choose up to three pieces of music to be played.
